The whole thing is just plain magical... and has been growing more so year after year. A decade ago, I volunteered as a stage hand and got my first taste of being part of it - lugging amps, drum cases and electric pianos, winding cables and, of course, rockin' backstage to amazing musical talent. I totally caught the bug! Then I left New Brunswick for like 6 years and missed a whole slew of Harvests (booooo). Since coming back to the homeland 4 years ago, I got right back into it, only this time as a street performer. There's nothing like singing your soul out into the streets and watching the party unfold and flow by...some people stopping to catch your groove, and others just grooving on their way to some other musical adventure around the next corner. At night, the downtown core transforms into a dazzling musical carnival; connecting huge tents that serve up world-class artists with local buskers, entertainers, food, lights and fun. The best part is, now that I'm "all grown up" (haha), I can also bring my little kiddies for free shows in the daytime. After all, it's never too early to get them hooked on music (or to show them how to properly wind a mic cable....).

I've been to a lot of blues festivals - throughout the Maritimes, Maine, New Hampshire, Beale Street in Memphis, etc and many were wonderful but none compare to the absolute electricity that engulfs downtown Fredericton during the Harvest Festival. So much talent in so many venues, all with a few short blocks for five days. It's incredible.

Fredericton comes alive the week of Harvest. You can feel the energy in the downtown core. Truly, the best week of the year in Fredericton...and every year it just gets bigger & better.

Harvest is a Homecoming festival for Frederictonians who have moved away, a welcoming festival for those who have decided to come here and call it home and the week that visitors from all over take part in being a piece of Fredericton's community spirit. Huge venues, street closures, awesome artists and tunes for all ears make me an "ultimate" Harvest go-er every year.

The best year for us was when LIttle Feat played. It was great.
Glad they came to Canada.
